Founder’s New Year Message
In these turbulent times it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the suffering in our world and the human bias toward aggression and destruction. In response to this the world needs movements dedicated to loving kindness and care of the earth for the generations to come. It is more important than ever for us to ignite connectedness in our communities and “BE” the change. This is the power of the Welcome Dinner in re-membering our common humanity – while sharing our dinner tables and our food we send out waves of compassion, goodwill and understanding.
Did you know that the Welcome Dinner Project has over 25 Coordinators and 150 Welcome Dinner Facilitators volunteering to lead the dinners? Most of our team are volunteers but to maintain the momentum and sustain the project into the future, we need to have some Coordinators in paid positions. In 2017 we aspire to build a sustainable model for the Welcome Dinner Project that will enable it to flouish long-term and reach areas where it is needed most, both in Australia and internationally. If you are able to help us in any way, whether it be possibilities for funding or other aspects of our program, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for playing your part in creating a new story, one that is highlighting the depth of human generosity and creating the most beautiful unexpected friendships. I particularly want to thank our Welcome Dinner team across Australia who constantly amaze me with their tireless efforts and all the skills and creativity they bring to this project. Another exciting initiative that came about in 2016 was the formation of a joiningthedots “Vision” group, who are focusing on sensing the ongoing work of the organisation and how we can be most present to community needs and our planet as a whole. I’m most grateful to the array of people who are contributing at various levels to ensure we are growing and improving all the time. I’d also like to acknowledge all those who have supported us financially, either through a donation during our crowd funding campaign, grants or other in-kind support. A milestone was reached this year in attaining our first major business sponsorship – thanks to Spring Financial for believing in this project!
We wish all our Welcome Dinner “family” a peaceful and Happy New Year. Our thoughts particularly go out to all those suffering due to war and other unjust situations and people who are isolated at this time. Let us support one another as we work together to bring out the best of who we are in our diverse communities. I’m excited for what is still to come in 2017!
