Spreading welcome in Perth

2015-05-30 Dianella (1)

Our first home dinner in Perth was in Dianella and hosted by Maria. Maria has a big Italian family so is used to hosting large gatherings. She had two large tables put together and the setting was beautiful. About eighteen people came along including one of the first Perth international students to register on our website, a French family and English class students from Edmund Rice Centre Mirrabooka. Highlight dishes included a Ghanaian rice dish, Italian lasagne and gourmet French dessert cake.

2015-Oct-10-Vic Park (7)

A beautiful night was had in Victoria Park at a Welcome Dinner hosted by Melissa. Melissa heard about the Welcome Dinner Project on The Project and was excited to get the opportunity to host a dinner so soon after registering (this doesn’t often happen!). About sixteen people attended including a family from Columbia. The dinner was facilitated by Lana, Maria and Annatu.

Mandurah 14 June 2015 (4)

The first Welcome Dinner in Mandurah was actually a lunch. It was hosted by Ivy at her friend Ann’s house which is a lovely big property with a vegetable garden, fruit trees and chickens wandering around. Several delicious curries were shared and it was great to see everyone meeting new people and making friends in their local area. A highlight at the end of the lunch was the delicious home grown oranges shared by Ann’s husband.

2015-Sept-05-Barragup (1)

Barragup is a semi rural area on the edge of Mandurah and where we had another beautiful Welcome Dinner hosted by Tracey. Tracey is very keen to spread the Welcome Dinner Project in the southern areas of Perth so we started with a dinner at her house. About fourteen people came along including three gorgeous children. One of the highlight dishes was fish curry parcels which two of the children helped their mother prepare.
