Welcome Dinner Project now in Geelong!
Throughout the year we noticed that registrations for The Welcome Dinner Project were increasing in Geelong, a vibrant city 75kms south-west of Melbourne. Many generous people were offering to host dinners too! So we put the call-out to those who have registered to see if there were any people interested in being part of the coordinating team or training to facilitate dinners. Thanks to the super organising efforts of Paula Hurley, Kerim Nutku, Pam Morrison, Bec Lever, Joan Pratt and Helen Mar and the generosity of Diversitat, we were able to train a group of Geelong-based facilitators who ran their first Welcome Dinner in October! The Hurley family hosted 7 families, with 3 of those newly-arrived to Australia from Iraq. Guests loved the delicious food, conversations and meeting other Geelong locals. Thank you to facilitators Pam and Charlotte for facilitating the night.
Thank you to Deakin University and Diversitat for their ongoing encouragement. If you would like to host or participate in a Welcome Dinner in Geelong please register at www.joiningthedots.org.
